Why a magpie?

“Urraca” is Spanish for magpie. It’s also my dad’s nickname. When it came time to name the program, there was no other option: it had to carry his name.

Urraca started from a simple frustration. Every time I needed to edit a PDF, the options were an expensive subscription or a website that asked me to upload the document. That’s fine for a menu. Not for a contract, a medical record or a bank statement.

So I built the tool I wanted: a Windows program that does everything you need with a PDF, fast, without ads and without sending your files anywhere.

A bird with a bad reputation

Legend says magpies steal shiny things. Science says otherwise: when researchers tested it, magpies were actually wary of shiny objects and left them alone.

Magpies are also among the most intelligent birds. They are one of the few animals that recognize themselves in a mirror.

We like that story: a reputation for taking your things, and the habit of leaving them where they are.
